Piccolo Grande Gelatoheads 4 / Wakley Nissan Walshouts 4 Sept 28th, 2004 - 6pm Civic Centre

Undecided, unresolved, unsettled, unanswered, a draw, even-steven, tit for tat, I'll trade ya a loonie for 4 quarters …get the picture ? Yes it was a tie, sure they kissed their sisters which is really only a good thing in "them thar hills" not in this locale just south of "them thar Parler-mint Hills" but it was still a good game. In retrospect (which I believe is somewhere near Vars) it deserved to end as tie. Each team displayed flashes of brilliance both offensively and defensively, benefited from puck luck while both goalies had some fine saves coupled with some goals that they certainly would like to have back.

Wakley Nissan heretofore known as "The Walshouts" was first on the board about a minute into the game. Holy macaroni Martha a minute !! This is one of those goals that the Piccolo Grande Gelatohead netmenider Andy "5-hole" Sommerfeld would love to have back. Walshout forward Chris" Backdoor" Bradely brother of Walshout stalwart and one time Gelatohead Dave "Barndoor" Bradely walked out from the corner and slide a smooth shot right along the ice that found the back of the net. 5-hole was apparently trying to cover the pass option that was available as well as the shot and cheated to the middle of the net leaving his stick side vulnerable. Well I guess that's his story and he's sticking to it. Assists went to # 19 Wes "Wingman" Govenlock and # 24 Steve "2000 Flushes" Plumber who it should be noted at this point collected 4 assists on the night. It seems however that every time a goal was scored for either side you could hear number 24 being called out from somewhere by somebody whether he was on the ice or not…things that make you go Hmmmm :o) I guess somebody had to take on the role of the absent Gary "Long pockets" Walsh.

Piccolo Grande came right back a couple of minutes later when Darrel " The Dancer" Anderson was sent in alone on a nice feed from Eric "The Rage " Romanica. Dancing Darrel tangoed in and ripped a wicked snapper that boogied in off the blocker of Walshout spare goalie Chris "Frim" Fram bulging the twine, making Darrell shine. The other assist went to Big "D" Joe "The Commandant" German. That was all she wrote for scoring in the first period.

In the second period the Walshouts again took the lead on the play of the game. Walshout standout # 61 Mauricio "Rubber Hands" Rojas also known to his teammates as "Olé" and former member of the Mexican National Hockey Program drove through centre, sashayed over the blue line, deeked past the usually un-deekable Gelatohead defenseman Mark "The Mullet" Lowe slipping it between his legs ( please boys wait until after the game ), swooped in on net, froze 5-hole like a waffle cone in a Kelvinator and chipped a shot short top side. Assists went to # 27 Tweva "Throne Boy" King and the aforementioned 2000 Flushes. Mmmm Throne Boy and 2000 Flushes a naturally biodegradable combination.

Again, as the scoring pattern for the evening would dictate The Gelatoheads came right back. This time it was young Matt "The Katt" Pearce son of Ragger, brother of his sister (no, nobody kissed her) doing the damage. Diggin' the puck out of the corner Matt swung out front and pimped a wraparound so tasty that Piccolo Management is seriously considering making it a new flavour. This bit of dexterity left the bewildered Walshout netminder still standing in line. NEXT! Assist went to Big "D" Joe "The Commandant" German.

Answering back for the Walshouts was again # 61 Mauricio "Rubberhands" Rojas. After a give away in the Piccolo end and a mad "SCRAAAMMMBLE" (Hey Dean - get outta here) Rubberhands was able to locate a loose puck and send a blind backhand through a maze of legs and sticks past 5hole caught lounging on his "screened in" porch. Assisting on the play was # 3 Gary "Trembling" Tremblay and # 24 …well you oughta know Alanis.

So what happened next? If you said the Gelatoheads found a way to tie things up then you've won a free cone ( available only at the future site of their latest franchise in Tuktoyuktk ;o) This time it was Phak "Grassmaster" Chin providing the offence firing a seeing eye shot from the point that eluded everybody and their guide dog. Assists going to the Commandant and young Matt "The Katt" Pearce.

And then… ? You guessed it the Walshouts once again took the lead. Again much Gelatohead running around in their own end lead to a series of shots on net of which 5hole was able to flop in front until a cannonating backhand from the Morning Man himself # 6 Kurt "King Kong" Stoodley found it's way home through that same scary forest of legs and sticks, stopping off for tea and biscuits on the trapper and leg pad of 5hole before checking in at the House of Grandma on the inner shores of Blue Paint Lake. Perhaps another one 5hole would like back. Congrats Kurt on your first goal of the season as you proved it's never a bad play to throw the puck at the net.
Oh yea you look nothing like Max Keeping ;o)

Of course Piccolo was able to come back once again and tie the game. With only 54 seconds left on the clock Big "D" Joe "The Commandant" German provided the heroics teeing up a corker on the 18th that he drove "Singh"-ing into the net unabated which was appropriate as the Walshout netminder was complaining of hearing birdies after the game. The result no doubt of being steamrolled by his over zealous D-man Steve "2000 Flushes" Plummer as he was trying to separate Gelatohead buzz saw Steve "Skeeter" Hambling from his family jewe...I mean tree. Sorry Mistah Plummer but no assists are awarded for decapitating your own goaltender, the opposing netminder maybe.

Well all's well that ends well or, well, well, well or you can go to the well once to often or well what the hell or well … ahh never mind. As the teams were leaving the ice after the customary handshake (I would prefer milkshakes) one could still hear a faint ominous almost ghostly sound emanating from the rafters….. "assist number 24"

From the Blue Paint
Keep your stick on the ice and outta my crease ;o)
