Round 28 - Sept. 14, 2000 - The Outaouais
I finally got a chance to play this gorgeous course. Just east of Rockland, Ontario about 40 minutes from downtown Ottawa, it is well worth the trip. A great facility with a lovely chipping green and secluded range makes this track a real pleasure to play. Another great bonus here is that any wooded areas where you might lose a ball have been completely cleaned out which makes finding that arrant drive easier to spot. I went out with an old friend of mine André Gaulin who has played this course many times as his dad is a member. The Outaouais plays 6798 yards off the blues and 6486 off the whites with ratings and slopes of 71.8/124 and 70.6/121 respectively. I started out great with a beautiful drive leaving my ball in the middle of the fairway 240 yards out. I bogeyed the first two holes and took a double on the 505 yard/par 5 third. I went out with a 44. André took a 55. I was on my way to another 88 until the short, par 4, 18th. A beautiful hole, dogs leg right to and elevated island green. On or off! I hit a 3 wood to the landing area 125 yards from the pin. All I had to do was hit an easy 8 iron and two putt for the 88. Water! What Water? Oh that Water! After my drop I put it on the green and two putted for the 6 and 90. Oh well it was a good round even in the rain. André had a bit of trouble and came in with a 55 for a 109. I hit six fairways, only 3 greens and took 30 putts. My moment of Zen came on the 420 yard/par 4, 16th. I left my drive 180 yards from the pin but tucked 20 yards behind a huge tree. I knew I could make this shot. A 180 yard fade to the left side back pin placement. As Shivas would say I "let nothingness into" my shot, swung through and dropped the egg just off the green, 10 feet from the pin. Ya! I'll be back.
