Round 22 - August 14th - Cranberry Resort, Collingwood - 22 degrees sunny clouding over
Well, back in the ring for another swing. I just got back from a 4 day camping trip with my son Gus in Tobermoray and I'm back out on the links with Gus and my dad for a little twilight golf. As at most courses there's a reduced fee for twilight. Here at Cran. it's $32 after 4pm. Their regular rate is $79. We were paired up with a husband and wife team Larry and Elaina who are from Brampton but have been living at Cranberry for 4 years now. Dad and I both opened poorly shooting 19 and 18 respectively in the first 3 holes. I picked up my game for the next 3 parring 4, birdying 5, and parring 6 to sit at 28 after 6. Dad struggled through the front with a few missed shots to go out with 57. I was very pleased to go out with a 44, I think my best of the season.

My driver hadn't been working on the front so I left it in the bag and then proceeded to push my 3w shot left into the woods. A nice new addition to Cranberry is that except for one hole (#8) virtually every fairway is red staked. Even so, I took six penalty strokes on the round which on most courses would have been stroke and distance. My dad's game picked up on the back and my game waned a little. We both came in with 49s. That gave my dad an even 100 and me a 93. Wow! I don't believe it! I'm actually playing golf! I only had 2 triples on the round, 4 doubles, 8 bogies, 3 pars and a birdie. Dad hit 11 fairways (down the middle) but didn't hit a green, and took 39 putts! Ouch! I hit 6 fairways, 5 greens, and took 34 putts.

My moment of Zen came on the 18th. With the light failing, and a wide open fairway, I decided to bring out the play club again. I put everything into it and dinged one straight as an arrow dropping it even with the 200 marker. 269 yards in the dead calm! The pin was in the middle of the green but I didn't want to come up short so I whacked it with my 5w. Straight as an arrow, hit the front and rolled 20 yards past the pin for an eagle opp. My 60 foot putt broke right to left and stopped 4 feet from the hole. I missed the bird by inches and tapped in for the par. A very encouraging round considering if I could keep my tee shot on the fairway I could've shot an 87! Oh well hope springs eternal.
