Round 21 - August 10th - Owen Sound Golf & Country Club (http://www.osgcc.com) - 23 degrees sunny moderate wind
Set up above and on the west side of the Sound, the Owen Sound G&C Club was a pleasant surprise. The course is over 50 years old and is in great shape due I'm sure to immaculate maintenance. The original old style club house, with bar, card room, and a complete original dining room overlooking the 9th green (cleat marked hardwood floors included) is complemented by a modern pro shop which sits adjacent to the first tee. At $120 for two including power cart and taxes this course is a bargain.

The course plays 6142 yards off the blues with a rating of 69.4 and 5991 off the whites at 684. with respective slopes of 122 and 120. It's a links course in that there are many connecting fairways with very few white stakes. A pleasure to play. We were teamed up with another father and son team Jerry and Matt from Michigan and Arkansas. Jerry's wife was from the area and he had played the course a few times. Jerry seemed to be in his mid 50s and Matt late twenties. Matt told me he had a six year old boy so he thought it was kind of cool to have Gus with us. My dad and I went out with our trusty caddy Gus (my six year old boy), with high hopes as usual. I wouldn't be disappointed on this day!

The round began rather inauspiciously with dad taking a 7 and me a 6 on the 399 yard first. I doubled again on the second, but birdied the third. Dad birdied 8 to go out with a 45. I tripled the par 5, 9th, to go out with a 48.

The back opened up a little better for me with a par. I bogeyed five of the next eight took 2 more pars and 1 triple to come in with a 44 for a gross of 92. Hooray! Coming back to life! Dad struggled through the back having trouble getting the ball up off the fairways. He doubled every hole on the back except 16 where he took a triple and 17 where he took a par. He came in with 57 for a gross of 96. Dad hit 12 fairways, 5 greens and took 28 putts. Although we didn't share scores Jerry played about the same as my dad, but Matt had a tough time. Watching him really reminded me of my game three years ago.

Golf is a tough, tough game that is played on a 5 1/2 inch course between your ears, the Owen Sound G & C Club makes this course much bigger and very pleasurable.
