Round 16 - July 26 - Loch March - Sunny 28 degrees, humid, calm After months of preparation and organizing, the tournament was finally here. We ended up with 25 golfers with the first group, Mark Robert from Koffman Signs, Andy Sommerfeld and myself, teeing off at 1:00pm. Mark and I decided to play for $20 on the match and $20 on the gross. Andy being a novice was left out of the betting. We both started off poorly, Mark taking a 6 and I taking a 7. Mark having a lower handicap than myself gave me 4 strokes on the round, with the first hole being the most difficult, we tied. By the end of the first 9 Mark went out with 43 and I 58. This left Mark with an insurmountable lead of 15 strokes on the gross. He was also up 5 holes on the match. My high score on the front 9 was due to consistently poor play, especially a quintuple bogey on the par 3 eighth. The back 9 started out great for me; I parred the tenth with Mark taking a 7. I came in with a 44 and Mark with a 51. Mark ended up taking the gross with a 94 and me with a total of 102. My adjusted score was 96. I took 28 putts, hit only 4 fairways all on the front 9 ironically and 2 greens. My consistently good play on the back nine allowed me to tie the match winning back 5 of the lost holes on the front. My moment of Zen came on a 134-yard par 3 sixteenth. I put the ball 45 feet from the pin on the top tier of the 3 tiered green. There was a slight break right to left, which I read perfectly to drain the 45-foot putt for the only birdie of the day. The overall low gross winner was George Bradie of the Dunvegan Pub with a score of 85. He tied Joel Anslow from Pop Tif Hair Design for the low net with scores of 75. With George taking home the gross trophy, Joel took home the net. The womens low net winner was Madeleine Malouin with a gross score of 120, and a net score 80. George Bradie also took the longest drive with a beautiful hit just shy of 300 yards. The ladies longest drive also went to Madeleine and closest to the pin went to Dave Stubbs. Honorable mention goes to Alain Chenier the Piccolo Grande Production Manager, who was the tenacious winner of the highest score of 137, we're sure to see him next year. It was a great tournament, everyone went home with lots of prizes, a commemorative long sleeve embroidered t-shirt, and great memories of a great day. Check out pictures of our sponsors here.
