Round 9 - June 22, The Champlain
Well I know I was supposed to play twilight golf at the Dome yesterday, but life got in the way, so I did a walk up today. I teed off at
12:30 with Lynn and Bill who were playing in a company match tourney, and Pierre who's a club regular.
We had a glorious morning but there were very big dark clouds looming in the west. By the time we got to the 6th tee the wind was
howling and the rain started to come down. Pierre who was driving a power cart decided to quit. I teed one up and drove it 240 down
the right side of the fairway leaving me with an easy 7 iron to the green. Bill and then Lynn teed off and then we waited out the worst
of it for about 10 minutes. I didn't have an umbrella so I got soaked. It was a little cool so I was a little uncomfortable but we
soldiered on. I put it to the edge of the green with my second but three putted for 5. My only three putt of the day.
I ended the front with a 45. Bill and Lynn were tied in their match. Both of them very good players. The rain kept coming and going
making for a rather wet round. When we got to the 14th grren it was half covered with water. The back nine proved to be no better or
worse for me, coming in with another 45 for another heart breaking 90! I'm so close. I guess this was a better round seeing as we
played off the blues adding 260 yards and a few difficult tee boxes. The best part of the round was the fact that I parred 4 of the 5
par threes, although those were my only pars. I hit 8 fairways, only two greens and took 29 putts. My weakness, which I vow to correct
before this season is out, is my wedge shots from 20 to 30 yards. I lost at least 6 strokes because of this. Stay tuned as I struggle to
break 90!
